Groundworks, Stone Walling & Surfacing in Caernarfon
This Caernarfon project involved several different elements of exterior property work rather than a straightforward resurfacing job.
The existing area required preparation and reconstruction before new natural stone retaining walls could be built around the different levels of the property.
The stonework was finished with paved coping and associated drainage before new tarmac was laid across the driveway and access areas. The result brings the different levels and surfaces together as one complete exterior improvement.
Natural Stone Retaining Wall Construction
One of the main parts of the project was the construction and rebuilding of natural stone retaining walls around the sloping property.
The photographs show the work progressing from the exposed ground and initial stonework through to the finished walls, coping and surrounding hard landscaping.

Wall Finishing, Paving & Drainage
The upper sections of the stonework were finished with paving and coping to form clean edges around the different levels.
Drainage was incorporated into the hard landscaped areas so that surface water could be managed as part of the completed exterior works.

Work Carried Out
1. Ground Preparation
Existing materials and areas were prepared to create the required levels for the new work.
2. Stone Walling
Natural stone retaining walls were constructed around the different levels of the property.
3. Paving & Drainage
Coping, hard landscaping and drainage details were incorporated around the stonework.
4. Tarmac Surfacing
The driveway and access areas were finished with a new hard-wearing tarmac surface.
Tarmac Driveway Surfacing
Once the groundwork and stonework stages were sufficiently complete, the driveway and access areas could be resurfaced.
Hot tarmac was laid across the prepared surface and hand finished around the walls, paved edges, garage and other features before being compacted.

The Finished Caernarfon Project
The completed project combines traditional natural stonework with modern practical surfacing, creating a much more usable exterior area around the property.
It also demonstrates the advantage of EBP being able to undertake groundworks, stone walling and driveway surfacing as part of the same project, rather than requiring separate contractors for each stage.
